Sport Psychology Ltd emerged in 2000 from the ASPIRE Sports Partnership which had operated since 1989. Original founding member of Aspire - Stephen Smith, Chief Psychologist- takes up the story.
I specialised as a psychologist having started my training in medical school. I quickly realised I was fascinated in sport and human performance and combined all my passions with a degree in psychology with physiology and pharmacology. I discovered psychometrics and joined the UK's leading consultancy (Saville and Holdsworth- SHL) where I built my first psychometric for professional footballers in 1990. At that point I teamed up with some other SHL colleagues and we founded ASPIRE which eventually became Sport Psychology Ltd in 2000.
Sport Psychology Ltd is unique in that it combines leading edge neuroscience from all walks of psychology. SPL is as comfortable applying business psychology into sport via our PSYenz division as it is delivering elite sport performance approaches into business
